Sedation Dentistry
At Burbank City Dental, we strive to provide dental care in a comfortable environment for our patients. Our dental professionals utilize a range of techniques to reduce any fear or anxiety patients may have. Our premier sedation dentistry services include medications that relax patients during extensive treatments or services. We do not want any of our patients to dread their time at our office and aim to ensure patients feel safe and at ease with our dental staff.
Types of Pain-Killing Medications
Analgesics
This type of medication is a pain reliever which includes common non-narcotic medication such as ibuprofen and aspirin. Analgesics are used for mild discomfort and may be prescribed following root canals and tooth extractions.
Anesthetics
Anesthetics can be topically applied, injected or swallowed. Topical anesthetics are typically used in various dental procedures. Novocaine and lidocaine are the most common injectable anesthetics utilized during fillings and root canals.
Sedatives
Sedatives are used to help patients relax and avoid pain. They can be combined with other pain relievers. The most commonly used sedative is nitrous oxide or laughing gas. Sedatives can be administered through inhalation, oral, intramuscular and intravenous.
Patients can undergo various treatments and procedures and experience no memory, smells, sounds or anxiety while in the dental chair. Our dentists will work hard to accommodate every patient’s needs and concerns at our practice.
Patients may require sedation dentistry if they have:
Anxiety and fear of dental offices and procedures
Sensitive teeth
Past dental trauma
A hard time sitting for long periods of time
Extensive treatment needs
A severe gag reflex
A complex phobia
We are constantly working to better our sedation dentistry at Burbank City Dental for our patients. Our dental professionals uphold the highest levels of safety and have been thoroughly trained to administer and prescribe any degree of sedation.
