Periodontal Exams
At Burbank City Dental, we provide the leading periodontal exams for our patients with our periodontist, Dr. David Farivar. Dr. Farivar recommends patients come in for semi-regular periodontal exams to avoid periodontal diseases. Periodontal diseases affect over 47.2% of adults, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The Most Common Periodontal Diseases
Gingivitis (gum disease):
Gingivitis is a mild form of gum disease that causes gums to be red, swollen and bleed easily. Gum disease arises as bacteria gathers on the teeth.
Periodontitis
This condition occurs when gingivitis is not treated and bacteria begins to spread beyond the gums. Periodontitis breaks down the bone and tissue and can ultimately lead to harmful damage.
Symptoms for periodontal diseases include bad breath, inflammation of the gums, loose teeth, receding gums and tenderness. Patients with periodontal disease may exhibit one or all of these symptoms. It is important to visit our specialized periodontist to identify and diagnose any periodontal diseases or conditions. If proper treatment is not received, periodontal diseases may lead to heart disease, diabetes and a stroke.
What to Expect
Dr. Farivar will meet with patients to evaluate the health of the gums, teeth and overall oral health. During this exam, he can diagnose any periodontal diseases present. Dr. Farivar will carefully check the gums, teeth, plaque buildup, the depth of space between your tooth and gums and any oral abnormalities. If any periodontal diseases are present, he will develop a customized treatment plan for the patient detailing all recommended treatment options. Dr. Farivar aims to stand as a resource throughout the patient’s entire treatment process at Burbank City Dental.

Periodontal treatment may include medication, deep cleaning, and surgical options. Patients can keep gums healthy by keeping a strict oral regime by brushing and flossing every day. They should return, as directed by Dr. Farivar, to receive periodontal exams and schedule regular cleanings at our practice. We continuously emphasize the importance of preventative measures to avoid dental diseases and conditions down the road and advise that patients take advantage of our premier dental services.
