Types of Dentures
Full Dentures
Immediate dentures can be created almost immediately with our advanced technology at Burbank City Dental. These dentures are a temporary solution placed as a precursor to permanent dentures. Conventional dentures are created to look, and function as natural teeth would. Implant-supported overdentures are considered two different forms of dentures which include bar-retained and ball-retained dentures. Bar-retained dentures lock with the use of a metal bar. Ball-retained utilize a metal attachment ball to connect each dental implant.
Partial Dentures
Transitional partial dentures are a temporary solution used during the healing process after a tooth extraction. These dentures can be easily replaced or relined. Removable partial dentures are made to have a better fit with comfortable feel. This option is a cheaper alternative to permanent dental implants.
What to Expect
The dentist will meet with the patient to determine whether dentures are right for the patient. During this appointment, the dentist will perform an oral exam and discuss the patient’s aesthetic goals for their denture treatment. The dentist will spend time educating the patient on all aspects of the treatment process. A mold will be taken of the teeth to create the dentures. Then the prosthetic teeth will be meticulously designed to match the patient’s color, size and shape preference for a natural look. Temporary dentures are created to transition during the healing process. Once the patient has healed, temporary dentures will be molded into permanent form. The form and function of the dentures will be carefully checked by the dentists to ensure that the patient is comfortable and satisfied.
Patients should brush their dentures after every meal to increase the longevity of the dentures. Dentures should be cared for as if they were real teeth. Patients can choose to reline dentures over time to adjust to the contours of the mouth. Partial dentures can also be converted into full dentures at any time.
